This week’s news keeps bleeding, keeps keeps bleeding news…
The Return Of Rihanna
The Wait Is Ova. Yes, not content with taking over the pop world with her squeaky vocals and rich tunes, Rihanna’s people are now rewriting the English language with the word ‘over’ simply not good enough for them. We could of course go off on one about grammar innit, be we won’t. Let’s instead concentrate your mind on the fact that Rihanna is back and covered in barbed wire in an explosion of fashion-meets-art. We assume the wire is rubber and not barbed otherwise we fear for her nipples; plus the eye patch is a bit Gabrielle circa 1996 but still. Rihanna’s fourth studio album, Rated R, is due to be released on November 23rd. Before all of that though, her first Ne-Yo-penned single Russian Roulette was launched on Tuesday – to hear what all the fuss is about, click here. Will the album live up to the hype? On the strength of the new image, yes; on the strength of her first single, the jury is still out…
Camden Crawl 2010
After the sell-out success that was last year’s sun-drenched Camden Crawl, six months later the Gaymers Camden Crawl 2010 was announced this week, with tickets for the first festival of the year going on sale on October 29th. 2010’s Crawl is set to run over May 1st & 2nd Bank Holiday weekend and with 40 venues hosting 200 live acts and special guests, we have high hopes of it living up to last year’s jamboree. RealMusic Blog had a fantastic Crawl last year, taking in acts like VV Brown, Hockey, Dan Black, Marina and the Diamonds and Filthy Dukes. Expect next year’s inner city festival to be no less essential and essentially drunken. The 2010 event is being presented in association with international charity War Child who’ll get some welcome cash and if you buy one of the first 1,000 tickets you’ll get a Crawl/War Child Christmas card and a free compilation CD Camden Heroes. Phew! If you fancy larging it early doors in Camden next year, weekend tickets for the Gaymers Camden Crawl 2010 go on sale at 9am on October 29th – for more info click here. Initial line-ups will be announced January 2010.
Frankie Says Ker-Ching!
25 years on from its original release, Frankie Goes To Hollywood are re-releasing a Chicane-mixed version of their seminal debut single Relax. RealMusic Blog received its promo copy with no less than 11 remixes of the single on it just in case you get bored. The boys are also releasing a Greatest Hits Collection to mark the 25th anniversary, all of which are set to be ready for sale on November 2nd. FGTH have recorded a spangly new video for the track that’s chock-a-block with nubile young things and Holly Johnson. The greatest hits will include classics like Relax, Two Tribes, War, The Power Of Love and Welcome To The Pleasuredome.
