Summer Festival Guide

There are tons of festivals to go to these days, so if you haven’t already bought your Glastonbury ticket, don’t panic. Take your pick from oodles of other combustions of music, booze & love taking place all around the UK and mainland Europe where you can bask in the happy glow of guitars, tambourines and sunshine. They all want your cash, but here’s my pick…

Lovebox Weekender: July 15-17, Victoria Park, London

Music: Groove Armada’s weekend in the Big Smoke is set to feature headliners The Wombats, Snoop Dogg and the Scissor Sisters alongside Beth Ditto, Robyn, Jessie J, Katy B, The Drums and oodles more.

Selling point: Bigger & better year on year, this is a musical love note to London Town.

Soundwave Festival, 22-24 July, Petrcane, Croatia

Music: Croatia and dance music go together perfectly and this is just one of many festivals this year. Roots Manuva, Little Dragon, Zero 7 and Belleruche head an all-star cast.

Selling point: Guaranteed sunshine by the sea, so why not make it part of a larger holiday and kick back? The boat parties are also legendary.

Creamfields: August 26-28, Daresbury in Halton, near Liverpool

Music: The annual dance festival sees DJs and acts combine including Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Annie Mac, Eric Prydz, Magnetic Man, The Chemical Brothers, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Katy B, Swedish House Mafia and umpteen others.

Selling point: With a cocktail bar and luxury toilets, this is the festival for grown-ups.

Bestival: September 8-11, Robin Hill Country Park, Isle Of Wight

Music: The now traditional curtain-downer on the festival season has a stellar line-up this year including Public Enemy, Pendulum, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Robyn, Fatboy Slim, The Drums and tons more.

Selling point: Best for fancy dress – come as a lamppost or there will be trouble. What happens on the Isle, stays on the Isle.
