Madge Vs Macca? Madge Wins

Last month saw new albums announced by both Madonna and Paul McCartney, music legends and traffic-stoppers in their own right. However, we think it only fair to reveal that we reckon Madonna has won with her album title MDNA, as opposed to Paul whose new oeuvre is titled Kisses On The Bottom. He’s backing it up by saying that it’s a lyric from the album’s opener, a cover of Fats Waller’s I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter – but whichever way you look at it, Madge comes over as the cool aunt while Paul’s clearly the embarrassing grandad…

Madge revealed her album title in the stilted, awkward chat with Graeme Norton recently, even though the Irish host did his best to cope with her guarded, at times cutting persona. However, in choosing MDNA, we think Her Madgesty has conjured one of the cleverest album monikers of late. Now we wait for Lady GaGa to call her next album GG.

Macca’s new album is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions – My Valentine and Only Our Hearts. He’s roped in mates Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder for guest slots and the tracklisting sees Paul gallop through classic American compositions including It’s Only A Paper Moon, Bye Bye Blackbird and The Glory Of Love.
