Interview Archive: Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars played a starring role at last night’s Superbowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, wowing the crowd with his songs as well as his gold lame jacket. I interviewed him a little over three years ago when he was on the cusp of mega-fame, having just had his first No.1 with Just The Way You Are plus success with a bunch of other hit songs. He was a terrific interviewee, buzzed about life & full of energy despite being jetlagged. Here’s the interview from October 2010 where he talks about fame, his ambition and why freshly squeezed orange juice means you’ve made it…

Bruno Mars – Doo-Wops & Hooligans

The boy from Hawaii has been all over the radio in the past 12 months, penning and producing a bundle of worldwide smashes for himself and a raft of others including Cee-Lo Green, B.o.B. and Travie McCoy. Let’s just say if he wanted to be a billionaire, this year will have done no harm to his bank balance. Mars’s talent for penning a tune is what shines through on this debut, coating every note and lyric. Doo-Wops & Hooligans breaks no new ground but ensures that every song is a tiny, perfectly formed pop tour de force…

Bruno Mars, King’s College, London – October 25th

If Bruno Mars could have picked a week to play London, I reckon he’d have picked this one. His single Just The Way You Are has just blasted back to the top of the UK charts and the love for him at King’s College on Monday was palpable as the Hawiaan bounced around the stage, Trilby perched atop his head. If you want a hit at the moment, you could do worse than ask Bruno as he proved in his charged set that showcased his reggae-pop vibe…

Bruno Mars Interview

Having written B.o.B’s Nothin’ On You, Travie McCoy’s Billionaire and had a No.1 himself with Just The Way You Are, Bruno Mars is suddenly the go-to man if you want a surefire hit. October has been a big month too – he turned 25 and released his debut album in the US Doo-Wops And Hooligans. We caught up with a rather jetlagged Bruno this week to talk about his fame, whether he’s a billionaire yet and Matt Cardle’s high-pitched cover on X Factor…

Bruno Mars – Making Of Just The Way You Are

Another week, another act at No.1. The heady heights of pop chart supremacy are short-lived these days, and Tinie Tempah has this week duly replaced last week’s chart-topper Bruno Mars and his track Just The Way You Are. Never mind though, eh? Here’s a film about the making of Bruno’s debut music video for the track, and we reckon the director is either in love with him or under contract to say ever-such nice things about the popster, which he duly does. As for Bruno himself? “This song is about women and they need to hear it because they is beautiful,” he opines. We getcha, fella.

Bruno Mars is touring with Travie McCoy throughout October – for more click here.
