Autumn is my favourite time of the year with its vivid colours, sunshine, closing nights and fireworks galore. Plus, it has the run-up to Christmas which as everyone knows is far & away the most exciting time of the year! But what exacty make this such a thrilling time in the calendar of life? Well, these ten for starters…
10 – Warm Clothes
Jumpers, socks, long johns, coats, scarves. Remember them? It’s time to dust off your knitwear and rug up.
9 – Leaves
Look at all the pretty colours! Jump in the scrunchy leaves! Roll around until you hit some dog poo! Oh.
8 – Hot Alcoholic Drinks
Mulled wine, mulled cider, punch, speciality coffees. These are what cold weather DEMANDS.
7 – It’s Nearly Christmas!
And that means time for presents, watching Elf, bathing in mulled wine and eating your body weight in mince pies. What’s not to love about that?
6 – Freezing Football
I went to White Hart Lane in September and got sunburnt – this is so very wrong. Football is all about freezing temperatures and warming Bovril.
5 – Strictly Come Dancing & The X Factor
Weekends are now all about dancing and singing, so you may as well just succumb and put your life on hold. Nobody’s going to be talking about anything else, after all.
4 – Oktoberfest & London Cocktail Week
Some people are trying to ruin October by calling it StopTober. I’m all for moderation, but Oktoberfest and London Cocktail Week are both reasons to embrace booze face-first.
3 – Comfort Food
Stew, hot chocolate, pies, mash, soup, stodgy desserts. Because Autumn doesn’t have ANY calories, unlike nasty summer. Fact.
2 – Bonfire Night
Loud bangs, whizzy whooshes, marshmallows, hot dogs, toffee apples, bonfire toffee. You may as well just rip your teeth out now, it’d be kinder.
1 – My new book The Long Weekend is out in November
Giddy with excitement? You should be. My new novel is due to hit the shelves in November, so clear a space on your Christmas list for it now!
Clare Lydon is the author of Amazon No.1 best-seller London Calling. Her new novel, The Long Weekend, is due out in November.
