I can't believe the new book is out tomorrow! It seems just yesterday the little idea came to me to jump back to the 1950s and tell a story of forbidden love. So why the 1950s?- 1950s London was a whole new world. No rationing, a new queen, and suddenly you could watch TV and put your clothes in a spinny machine that magically washed them. It was a society on the cusp of something big, but not quite there yet.- Think women in big skirts with babies in huge prams, and others in overalls enjoying cigarettes after a long stint in the factory. I feel I would be an overall kinda gal in this scenario. I would also have tried, and failed, to be a smoker. - I wanted to write about a period in history that I could fully imagine. 1950s London was that. Plus, my parents met and courted there, so I had people I could ask for information. In the midst of all the excitement of the Big London Dreams launch (two days to go!), I'm currently also writing my next book. A writer's work is never done. This one dips into the fake girlfriend trope and is set in the Scottish Highlands. I wrote a few chapters over the weekend, but I've really got into it this morning. I even started writing the first kiss, and you know how I love those. The amount of words might be due to the insanely large coffee and cool stripy straw, but I'm going to say it's because of my overworking brain excited to get new words on the page. I'm aiming to get the first draft finished this week, and then it's the job of turning it into something you can read.
